Tehran consultation sessions pave ground for AMF Created on 11/18/2018 2:56:28 PM
The 5th Asian Mayors Forum General Assembly has been slated during preliminary consultation sessions hosted by the permanent secretariat in Tehran.
Announcing that the forum will be held on November 29 to December 2, Acting Secretary General of AMF Goshtasb Mozaffari added that the event “will be presented in three main parts” in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.
Mozaffari continued that in the first part 21 members of executive committee of the event will discuss and make decisions on the progress of AMF’s roadmap, and in part two, the participant mayors will propose their ideas based on their urban management experiences, under the title of general assembly meeting.
During the part two, the mayors will choose the members of the executive committee for the next round of assembly and also negotiate on the reformation of its articles of association.
In addition, the acting secretary general said the mayors, civil officials, and experts will present their views under the four topics of Traffic and Transportation (mobility) of Asian Cities, Asian Smart Cities, Asian Resilient Cities, as well as Asian Livable Cities.
Accordingly, officials and experts from Tehran and Gaziantep Municipality beside other participants will attend in consultative meetings which Traffic and Transportation will be hosted by Deputy of Traffic and Transportation, Livable Cities will be hosted by Deputy of Department of Planning and Architecture, Smart Cities will be hosted by Tehran Municipality ICT Organization, Resilient Cities will be hosted by Tehran Disaster Mitigation and Management.
Participants in the meeting of "Smart City" focus on the central role of "urban intelligence" in improving urban management and planning in order to boost economic opportunities in the city, reduce costs, optimize energy management, transportation and pollution reduction and environmental issues in the city.
On the subject of "Resilient Cities" meeting, urban managers and experts talk on ways to increase resilience and resilience of infrastructure, and also on improving the cities’ resiliency against natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods ... and human-made crises in the economy, society, environment.
According to Mozafari, in the fourth specialized forum on "Livable cities", the negotiators try to find how to improve the quality of life and improve urban services in order to make a comfortable, prosperous, relaxed, secure, and hopeful life.
Based on the initiative of Tehran ex-mayor, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the first General Assembly was held in Tehran in 2008, coincident with Tehran Milad Tower ribbon-cutting ceremony. Some 80 Asian cities had participated in the event. AMF has hosted 4 rounds of general assembly and 5 meetings for executive members and many workshops in Tehran, Istanbul, Bangkok, and Haikou.
